Kismet Rotisserie

Middle Eastern Kismet Rotisserie opened its sister location in Culver City location, it continues to attract a busy lunchtime crowd weeks later. Amongst the mid-day bustle, not an open table in sight. As I walk to and from the office, the food lining everyone’s plates looks heavenly.

The fanfare is high; known for creating mouthwatering dishes with, the obligatory rotisserie chicken, but also a good selection for those veg-forward eaters (like me!). Highlights include: the ridiculously good rotisserie chicken, the veg plate (with roasted tahini, hummus, peanut muhammara, a wedge and fluffy pita sandwich) and garlic-infused potatoes (both schmaltzy and veg) are not to be missed. Even the salads, including an unexpectedly scrumptious roasted cabbage with yogurt and seeds, are winning hearts.

HomeState Texas Kitchen

For those who crave a really good taco without chasing a pop-up tent, go to HomeState. I heard about it for years before I finally visited their Hollywood location on my way home (sidenote: there are a whopping eight locations in the LA area!). I first ordered one taco, as I initially thought the price was higher than typical street food (testing the waters).

It came out about 8 minutes later piping hot on a relatively slow late lunch afternoon. We graciously unwrapped the foil, grasping the soft taco shell, and inhaled its goodness. I immediately proceeded to the cash register and ordered four more tacos! Did someone say obsessed?

As a veg-forward eater, my favorite was the Emo’s (refried beans) taco, and the vegetarian Potato taco. If you dine in, you can sample their salsa for more flavor! My partner said his tacos were flavorful as-is so not necessary!

Depending on how hungry you are, these tacos are twice the size as typical street tacos so two tacos are pretty good to fill you up, and if you’re still hungry order more!! I think I ate three that day LOL. I did not get to try the Queso but one review said they wanted to drink it, straight up! What high praise! Next time.

It’s honestly one of the most delectable tacos, in a store-front, at a reasonable price. Ample outdoor seating (if it’s not too busy), dogs allowed outdoors, and a welcoming vibe for all taco aficionados.

Parmizza

Parmizza has some of the highest Google review ratings of any new Culver City opening I’ve seen (4.8 out of 5 stars)! The innovative concept for the Parmizza - it’s Italian toppings with an Austrian schnitzel base (wow, right?). For vegetarians, they are known for their cauliflower schnitzel options.

Guests are leaving with satisfied palates and content hearts.

Among the appetizers, the Chicken Liver Pate' and Octopus Carpaccio stood out. The Naked Sicilian Cauliflower Parmizza, is a crispy delight with a gluten-free cauliflower crust (this is a standout for veg lovers!). For the table, the Handsome Devil Parmizza was a crowd favorite.

Finally for dessert, revisit the 80s with their Neapolitan ice cream sando which is ready to show up on your Instagram stories as most photogenic.

Parmizza has already been added to my go-to restaurant list.

33 Taps Culver City

A welcome addition to the neighborhood (which in my opinion needs more nightlife and bars!). It’s originaly location is in Silverlake, so only nature to move further west! 33 Taps has an outdoor patio, picnic-style tables - with customers bringing the fun and adding to the relaxed atmosphere.

Before their grand opening, I often walked and witnessed their hardwork as they varnished those picnic tables to a shiny golden hue! Very excited their work paid off with cold beer, great customers, and good food.

Good for for a chill sports bar experience. Servers have a record of being attentive and kind; although you order through an app and there’s a self-serve water station. They’ve already developed a small following of regulars. Everything you want in your neighborhood bar. Definitely, bookmarking for my next happy hour gathering.
