Tried The New Jon and Vinny’s Slauson, and It Was Worth It!

As a local Leimert Park resident, the long awaited Jon and Vinny’s opening was one of excitement, mystery and anticipation (finally some quality pizza, and hipness in South LA!)! So when they finally burst open mid-November - I rushed to partake in some yumminess and share my honest review.

I had a hectic WFH day - so decided to order via phone and try their pick-up window, while not-so-secretly visiting their interiors. I went with the Rosy Pizza, olive oil complimenting the sweet tomato sauce, me thinks the olive oil was rose-flavored — reminds me of a Margarita! I thought this would be boring - but it turned out to be a stunner in its simplicity. Kudos to the trust star ingredient, the olive oil :) My partner was equally impressed with this tasteful beauty; so we highly recommend for those feeling something simple and traditional with a modern kick.

We also ordered the decadent Breakfast Pizza for our protein fix (with potatoes, fried egg, onion, rosemary, olive oil, parmigiano, caciocavallo — which is a stretch curd cheese!). OMG. If there’s one bfast pizza to treat out of towners, and impress those (if you’re rolling up at a brunch party) - it must be this Breakfast pizza! Filling, sumptuous, creative and encompassing everything LA. One cannot have just one slice. I must have eaten 3 slices just for moi - and could have finished the entire pizza for one — yes, mama, that good! You’ve been warned. Especially for those who believe breakfast is not complete without the essential egg.

The pick-up window was on-time and friendly. When I called, they promptly took my order, and said come by in 15 minutes (mind you it’s pre-lunch time rush). When I showed up, I checked in, and me-thinks she prioritized my order ahead of others since I was present :) Pizza came out piping hot, and wondrously filling my tiny Prius with cheesy, bready carb-scents!!

Of course, I had to scope out the fine interiors while I waited!

Interior bench and chair seating with warm, modern wood finishes, uplighting and a sunlight! Great for a casual first date, a birthday dinner, or a catch-up with BFFs.

GAH - look at that geometric wine display!

Taking notes for my future Dwell-featured apartment ;)

YES, my friends. They have outdoor seating in a cozy, modern patio. Depending on the time of day, it’s mostly indirect sunlit patio, fully enclosed from the street. Cute, right?

In summary, I 100% recommend Jon and Vinny’s for a casual lunch/dinner spot, and if you want to roll up on that party and be the superstar with your high-end yet approachable LA pizza. I am salivating just thinking about them. I may even order a few for a home gathering (which would be a with adults and kids alike). It’s not cheap, but reasonable given the quality, the freshness of ingredients, and their ultra thing crust pizza that is cooked to perfection! WOW indeed.

Updated 1/29/2022 - Did you know Jon and Vinny’s have even greater expansion plans? News just broke that they will opening up a Jon and Vinny’s in Beverly Hills which will have a (gasp) Helen’s wine bar in 2022. The Beverly Hills Chamber of Commerce and Jon and Vinny’s have confirmed this news.

That’s not all folks, they will also be building a Jon and Vinny’s on Moorpark Street in Studio City (no way!).

Then even more rumors that Jon and Vinny’s are opening up a busy East Coast city restaurant. Read more on Jon and Vinny’s expansion in EaterLA.
